Condolences
My memories of Dave Macfie will always be his loud, infectious laugh when I said something funny as a child and the spirited conversations we engaged in when I came home from university with my new idealistic views of the world. He would challenge each and everyone of them, and he taught me a lot about how to engage in constructive debate. But most importantly, it was the way his eyes would light up when friends and family came home after being away for awhile. You always knew he was genuinely glad to see you.
I am thankful for trips to the lake and special family meals that will always be in my memories because of Dave and Mary Macfie. Sending all my love to Christy, Todd and Mary for their loss.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Mary, Christy and Todd.
Dave was always a close friend of ours, whether we lived in the same neighbourhood or a thousand miles away. It all started with Bill and Dave sharing an office at HBOG, so many decades ago. Within months of meeting at the office, he brought Mary to meet us on a Sunday afternoon so she could meet another new wife in a strange land (Calgary!). And the lifelong friendships began.
So many memories over the past 55 years! Many laughs, heated discussions and bonding. Golfing, curling, vacations to Green Lake, Cypress Hills, Whitefish, Las Vegas and even New Zealand, travelling, kids and dinners, walking on Air Force Beach. We will miss you, old friend.

To the family of David Macfie
A remarkable talented guy … proved repeatedly by his oil industry management initiatives.
Straight as an arrow, tough and rugged by nature, a serious competitor, who could stand alone but appreciated friendship and human respect. Dave was a good friend who stood by me in my second marriage. He was light hearted in much touring between he and his wife Mary and my wife Diane, and myself.
Diane remembers fondly that the Macfies were the first couple in Calgary who invited us ( the Hutton’s) to dinner setting up a life long friendship.
His famous “bullshit” stamp of approval ( or otherwise!) was a foundation of his clear directional style. It created lively humour and improved technical interpretation. We will always remember Dave for our effective lives together.

Mary, Todd, Christy and family: Allow me to express my shock, sorrow and condolences of the passing of my good friend, colleague and ":fellow traveler. I met David when he joined Tenneco Oil probably in the early 1970's. Dave's technical and entrepreneurial talents were soon recognized which eventually resulted in his promotion to Exploration Manager in the successor corporate entity to Tenneco, CDC Oil and Gas.
Dave was a passionate "oil finder" who had a low tolerance for mediocrity in those who reported to him....... thus emerged the infamous "Bull S....T" stamp often affixed to a poorly documented exploration recommendations.
When CDC Oil & Gas purchased Aquitaine Canada, Dave elected to move on to carve his own career and was extremely successful in creating and selling several of his own corporate creations .Through all of this we remained in contact over these many years; we had our last conversation in early April; I will miss him very much; rest in peace my friend.
I would appreciate someone from family to contact me at 403 202 2243
