Obituary of Patricia Ann Fluter

April 1, 1954 – Regina, Saskatchewan

April 12, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Patricia Fluter of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the age of 69 years.

Patsy was born in Regina, SK, on April 1, 1954. She was the second of six children born to George and Florence (Meeds) Fluter and enjoyed her position as the “eldest daughter” and “big sister” to four brothers and one younger sister. When Patsy was 15, the family moved to Calgary, AB, and Patsy quickly became an enthusiastic Calgarian, enjoying all the excitement and opportunity the big city offered.

Patsy graduated from the Christine Meikle School, and later joined the VRRI for work training and job placements. She went on to work at Nortel, as well as in the hospitality industry. Despite a few challenges along the way, Patsy experienced much success and satisfaction in her vocational, employment, and personal/social endeavours. She was very proud of her independence and loved her apartment and her many friends. One of Patsy's most memorable vacations was when she went to Banff with her friends from the VRRI.

Patsy enjoyed her time spent in her bowling league; she loved country and western music (her favourite artist was Patsy Cline; her favourite song was “You Are My Sunshine”), stampede wrestling, and the Exhibition parades; as well as her trips back to Saskatchewan to visit with family. Most of all, Patsy enjoyed her close relationship with her mother, always maintaining her care and attention by visiting on weekends and providing thoughtful cards and gifts to mark the special occasions (Mothers Day, Mom’s Birthday, Easter, Christmas).

She will be most remembered for her smile, her love of country and western music, her thoughtfulness in keeping in touch with cards, letters and photos, and her sincerity in fulfilling her role as the “responsible big sister”. Patsy, you will always be “our sunshine”.

Patsy is predeceased by her mother and father Florence and George Fluter; and her sister Shirley Fluter.

Patsy is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Chris and Judith of Fort St. John, BC; Bob and Colleen of Regina, SK; Gary of Lethbridge, AB, Rick and Karen of Calgary, AB; nephew Richard Nelson of Calgary, AB; nieces Roberta Fluter of Moose Jaw, SK, Christie Ann Fluter of Regina, SK,  Natasha Molnar-Fluter of Regina, SK; as well as numerous uncles and aunts, cousins, extended family members, caregivers Jane, Judith, Madeline, Joy, and Maureen; “housemates” Justin and Michael, and friends . The family is grateful to the Medical and Palliative Care Staff and Dr Ellison Lewis at the Foothills Hospital; as well as her caseworkers from the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee, Michelle Zhang and Shivali Rathod.
