Obituary of Katy Bakarich


February 5, 1934 – Kamenica, Croatia

April 13, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Katy (Katica) Bakarich passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

 

Katy was born in Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1960. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and baking. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Katy was predeceased by her daughter Jill (Zjelka), her mother Anka, her father Ivan, her brother John, her sisters Mica and Milka, her nephew Mike and her ex-husband Karlo.

 

Katy is lovingly remembered and survived by her sons, Zack, Darko, and Gord (Tina); daughters, Judie (Doug) and Anita (Bill); grandchildren, Lindsay, Cody, Katelyn, Johnny, Michelle, Scott, Megan, Kirsten, Kacey, Brayden, Jake, Jessica and Colton; and her great-grandchildren, Enzo, Aria, Lexi, Zander, Arlo, and Kennedy. She is also survived by her sisters, Anne (Mike) and Lenka (Franko).

 

Katy will be most remembered for the endless love she had for all those who knew her, her boundless generosity, witty sense of humor, and unwavering strength through times of adversity.

 

A Celebration of Katy's life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Apostolic Church, 7440 Old Banff Coach Rd. SW, Calgary. A Reception at the church will follow the service. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

 

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.
