Obituary of Divina Montemayor Cayetano

June 10, 1950 – Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines

April 15, 2023 – High River, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Divina Cayetano (nee Ramirez) of Okotoks, AB, beloved wife of Ernesto Cayetano, on April 15, 2023, at the age of 72 years.

Divina was born in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines on June 10, 1950. She attended Urdaneta Community College in the Philippines before immigrating to Canada in 1967.  She also attended Lethbridge Community College and graduated with a Bachelor of Education.

Shortly after, Divina returned to the Philippines to marry her long-distance love, Ernie Cayetano, on July 18, 1971.  Ernie and Divina then moved to Canada to start their life and family together.

Divina (“Vine”) was a devoted wife, mother, and lola.  Her husband, children and grandchildren were the most special part of her life and she always put them first in everything she did.  Her love for her family was boundless and she will forever be remembered for her dedication to their well-being.  It was rare to hear her say “no” – especially when it came to her grandkids! Aside from being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Divina had a passion for gardening.  She spent countless hours tending to her plants, which reflected her nurturing spirit.  Her beautiful garden was a testament to her hard work and dedication, and it brought joy, beauty, and awe of God’s creation to all those who saw it.

Divina also loved Jesus, and His love poured from her to everyone she came in contact with.  Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.  She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her selflessness, and her unwavering love for her family and friends.

Besides her loving husband, Divina is survived by her three sons, Lawrence (Brynhildur), Jun (Heather), Jason (Karin); and daughter Diana (Anthony); as well as her nine grandchildren, Anthony, Dominic, Ella, Taliah, Isaac, Olivia, Layla, Levi, and Lawrence.

Divina is also survived by her four brothers, Benny (Trining), Cris (Jackie), Ruel (Connie) and Ricardo (Linda); four sisters, Linda (Pat), Ditas (Paran), Brenda, and Floreli (Anastcio); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Divina was predeceased by her parents Dionisio and Adela Ramirez and Ely and Florida Montemayor, as well as her brother Nino and sister-in-law Letty.
