Obituary of Tina Maucieri

August 25, 1941 – Bonefro, Campobasso, Italy

April 16, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Celestina “Tina” Maucieri (nee Ciampanelli), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the age of 81 years.

Tina was born August 25, 1941, in Bonefro, Campobasso, Italy. She was the third daughter to Antonio and Filomena Ciampanelli. In 1952, her father left Italy to immigrate to Canada and in 1953, along with her two sisters and mother, Tina made the voyage across the Atlantic to be reunited with her father.

In Calgary, Tina attended school and was eager to learn English and make new friends. She went to college and became a secretary, mastering shorthand and happily working alongside her best friend, Mary, at Taylor Pearson & Carson.

In 1961, she met and fell in love with Gennaro (Gerry) Maucieri. They married on September 29, 1962, and began a life together filled with travel adventures, wonderful friendships, and a loving family. As a mother, Tina always supported her children – volunteering in the school library, walking the girls to piano lessons, and watching her son play in many hockey games. When her youngest started elementary, Tina accepted a position with the Calgary Catholic School Board as the secretary of Corpus Christi Elementary School. She loved working with the staff and enjoyed the energy of the students.

Tina and Gerry enjoyed their retirement years splitting their time between Sundre, Alberta and Sun City West, Arizona until they returned permanently to Calgary in 2018. The moments together with friends and family have always given them both such joy and pleasure.

Tina is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Gerry; her children, Melina (Guy), Fena (Mervin), and Domenic (Maria); and her three granddaughters, Silena, Isabella (Lukas), and Adriana. She is also survived by her sister Assunta (Primo) Ferronato, and her brothers-in-law Nick Maucieri and Mike (Michelle) Maucieri. She will be lovingly remembered by many nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

The family thanks Gerry Gatto and the caregivers at Senior Homecare by Angels for their dedicated care over the years. As well, a heartfelt thanks to the staff on Unit 82 at The Foothills Medical Centre for their compassion.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Viewing at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church (404 Northmount Place NW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. A memorial tribute will take place prior to mass at 10:15 am. Internment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends who are unable to attend Tina’s service in person are invited to join Mrs. Maucieri’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
