Ellen Marlene Brown (nee Nielsen), beloved wife of Lawrence Brown, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the age of 74 years.

Ellen was born in Calgary, AB on July 29, 1948. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Education (Bed). Ellen married Lawrence Brown in 1972.

Ellen accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her teaching career and her love of travel. She enjoyed her numerous expeditions throughout the world exploring different cultures, terrains and just taking in the sites that the world has to offer.

Ellen belonged to a walking group full of wonderful ladies that she would talk highly of with her family, which led to a few stagette girls, only vacations that were definitely memorable experiences.

Ellen will be remembered for many things, but she will be most remembered for her sense of humor, zest for life and most importantly her love for her family.

Besides her loving husband Lawrence, Ellen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Derek Wills of Barrie, ON; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Nicole Brown of Calgary, AB; five grandchildren, Brooklyn Brown of Calgary, AB, Ashlynn and Colton Bell, of Barrie ON, Jayden and Jared Laturnus of Calgary, AB.

Ellen is also survived by her two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jim and Keith Nielsen and Sharon Nielsen of Calgary, AB; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Evelyn, Beverly and Victor, Roy and Gary, of Greater Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ellen was predeceased by her parents Virginia Marie and Thorvald Nielsen.

A Celebration of Ellen’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek Hospitality Centre, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family please make a donation to the charity of your choosing.
