Obituary of Steven L. Mistaken Chief

April 16, 2023 - Bragg Creek, Alberta

Steven, Mistaken Chief (Hippy) Jr., passed away peacefully on the Tsuut’ina Nation on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the age of 55 years. 


Steven was the loving father of Amber (Tyler), Brooke (Keegan), Stephanie (Riley), Owen, and Kaitlyn Big Plume. His siblings survive him, Lottie Many Wounds, Larry Mistaken Chief, Carolyn Blood (Dewey), Bruce Mistaken Chief, John Mistaken Chief, and Marlene Mistaken Chief (Wesley); along with his many close nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and special friends.


He was predeceased by his parents, the Late Stephen (Sr.) and Elsie Mistaken Chief.  His siblings Beatrice One Spot, Richard Mistaken Chief, Marie Soosay, Alfreda Hunt, and Debbie Mistaken Chief. His close cousins who were raised as his siblings, Greg One Spot, Brenda One Spot, Gwen One Spot, Michael One Spot, Kevin Many Wounds, Clinton Soosay and Bonnie Soosay. Also with his special nephews and nieces, Everette Mistaken Chief, Taron Heavy Runner, Twyla Mistaken Chief, and Tia Lynn Blood.


Steven was born in Cardston, Alberta on August 15, 1967, the baby of Stephen (Sr) and Elsie Mistaken Chief. He was raised on the Blood Reserve and the Tsuut’ina Nation, where he made his home. Steven attended Standoff Elementary School and then completed his education at Kainai High School. Steve was well known for his athletic ability; he excelled as a football player and enjoyed various other sports such as baseball, basketball, cross country, track & field, and he was a competitive boxer. He was well known for his humor and thoughtful ways of making friends wherever he went. 
The family apologizes to anyone that may have been left out, as he was a friend to many and loved by all who knew him.

Wake Services will be held at Bullhead Hall on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Bullhead Hall on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. on the Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB. Graveside Service to follow at the Big Plume Cemetery. Feast will follow the Graveside Service at Bullhead Hall. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
