Obituary of Doreen Frances Paries Reichel

REICHEL, Doreen Frances (nee Saniuk)

June 10, 1930 - Winnipeg, Manitoba

April 19, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Doreen Reichel (nee Saniuk) of Calgary, AB passed away with her family by her side on April 19, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Doreen was born in Winnipeg, MB, moving to Regina, SK, with her husband Bernie in 1948 where they raised eight children.

Doreen’s love of singing was passed on to all her children who in the 1967 Centennial celebrations became known as Regina’s own Von Trapp Family, performing across the province. Singing was in her blood until the very end, when listening to her favourite songs still brought a smile to her lips.

In the 70’s Doreen was the Banquet Manager at the Holiday Inn where she met and later married Ray Reichel, after a few dozen moves the couple settled in Alberta where they lived until Ray’s passing.

At the age of 87 she married Al Paries. These two moved out of the old folks’ home, into a motorhome and set off to explore Canada until Al’s sudden passing, and Mom’s constant battle with arthritis eventually put an end to their travels, and Doreen settled in Calgary, AB.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Foothills Hospital, and Age Care Seniors Home for taking care of our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma.

Doreen is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Bobbi and Ron Yanko, Virginia Hoffarth, Angie and Tim Meyers; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Greg and Tilde Ehman, Tim Ehman, Chuck and Teri Ehman, Bernie-John and Debbie Ehman, Danny Reichel and partner Joey Shaw; 24 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Doreen is predeceased by her husbands Bernard Ehman, Ray Reichel, Al Paries, son-in-law Harvey Hoffarth, and her grandson Jeff Yanko.
