Obituary of Barbara Ann Baldwin
July 16, 1938 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
April 20, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
The Baldwin family is sad to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara Ann Baldwin of Calgary, AB on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the age of 84 years.
Barbara was born July 16, 1938 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the only child of Audrey and Orland Petapiece. Barbara grew up in Saskatoon, Regina and Yorkton. In high school, Barbara met the love of her life, Douglas Baldwin, at Yorkton Collegiate. They married on May 2, 1959 in Brandon, and embarked on their life together in Estevan, where they welcomed their first child Cameron. Their next stop took them to Dawson Creek, where they welcomed their daughter Carolyn. From there, they moved to Edmonton, Toronto, Calgary, New York and back to Calgary, where they settled.
Family and friends were the center of Barbara’s life. Barbara was an avid bridge player and the “bridge ladies” remained her life-long friends. She enjoyed reading, Petit Point and knitting. Barbara and Doug’s passion for travel adventures took them from Tuktoyaktuk to Cape Horn, Melbourne to St. Petersburg, the Galapagos Islands to India and many more exotic locations in between.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Doug; son Cameron; daughter Carolyn Armitage (Doug); and grandsons, Riley Baldwin (Morgan), Duncan and Malcolm Armitage.
Barbara will be most remembered for her sense of humour, keen mind, extraordinary kindness and generosity. Barbara’s greatest pride and what brought her the most joy are her three grandsons Riley, Duncan and Malcolm, who loved her dearly.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 53 at the Peter Lougheed Centre for their care, compassion, and remarkable professionalism.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Calgary Golf and Country Club. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
