Condolences
So sorry we spent lots of time with Jim and Ann at Airport and our White Hatters BQ. Rest in peace my dear friend.
Jim was the Command or CFB Suffield when I first met him and Ann. I was a Captain in the British Army and ran the BATUS Adventure Training and Ski courses every year while posted to Suffield, Alberta. Jim and Ann used to attend my ski school each winter. Jim was a wonderful guy. He was quiet, unassuming but most of all a sheer pleasure to be around. Upon resigning from my commission, I emigrated to Canada and became a Realtor®. One day, out of the blue, Jim and Ann turned up in my office and asked me to find them a home once Jim had retired from the Canadian Forces which I did. That was the beginning of another wonderful relationship (us both now civilians). I had that relationship with both of them for nearly 40 years. Jim was kind and thoughtful. I really enjoyed his and Ann's company. Jim may be gone but I will always remember him for his wonderful demeanour. My wife Donna and I send our sincerest condolences to Ann and his family for their loss. You will always be on my mind. You made a big impression on me. Gone, but not forgotten sir. Rest in Peace Colonel.
Hi Folks
I first met Jim when he was a Troop Leader at the LdSH(RC) in Currie Barracks, Calgary in the fall of 1956. He was a young married man at the time and I was single so did not have much of a social relationship. I do remember him well though as he was very helpful to me as a newly commissioned officer. I saw him briefly again when I was leaving the Regiment in Germany and he was arriving to command a Tank Squadron. That was in 1967. I have sent Jim's obituary to the Strathcona's Association so that they can let the Regiment and their members know about his passing. my thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Dear Ann & Family,
Miriam & I extend our deepest condolences on Jim's passing. I first met Jim in 1967, when I was a member of the RCD flyover squadron sent to the Straths in Iserlohn for FALLEX for 3 months--and stayed for 4 years. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to remain in Jim's A Sqn and continued to learn the art of being an armoured officer from him.
By the time we moved to Lahr, Jim was regimental 2 i/c and I was A/Adjt, where his positive influence continued to shape me. Later, when I commanded the Straths in Calgary, Jim was commander at Suffield, where once again he was a positive role model for me and never hesitated to provide solid advice.
And, on top of that, he had a great sense of humour.
RIP soldier; duty done.
Ann and Family
Jim was my squadron commander (twice) before I was commissioned. When he was a Captain in Calgary I was his operator in a tank crew. As Major commanding C Squadron in Germany, I was one of his tank crew commanders. I always held him in great esteem, learing my lesssons that would stay with me during my career as an officer. We will remember him.
Dear Ann and family.
Please accept my sincere condolences on Jim's passing. Jim was my troop officer in first phase training in Camp Borden in 1960. I served with him in Calgary and again in Germany. He was a fine officer with great leadership skills and a wonderful sense of humour. I was proud and pleased to call him my friend. He will be sorely missed.
Dear Ann and family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of Jim. I first met Jim in 1960 in Camp Borden and then we periodically served together over the next 35 years or so in Germany and Canada. Jim was a first class officer and gentleman respected by his soldiers and fellow officers. Calm, cool and with a great sense of humour he set an example for those of us following in his footsteps. We will remember him!
