Obituary of John Devernichuk

November 20, 1934 – Stornaway, Saskatchewan

April 22, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

John Devernichuk, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 88 years.

John was born in Stornaway, SK, where he lived on the family farm before moving to Saskatoon.  It is there that he met his wife Caroline (nee Lukich), and they were married in 1958.  They had three children in Saskatoon before moving to Calgary, AB. The following year their fourth child was born.

John and his family continued to live and thrive in Calgary, where they enjoyed camping, hockey, and neighbourhood gatherings. John worked as a truck driver for MacCoshams Moving and Storage until his retirement. After retirement John and his wife traveled around in their RV and enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the family home.

John is survived by his two daughters, Penny Pomeroy of Calgary, AB, and Cathy (Kevin) Fercho of Calgary, AB and his granddaughter Kaitlyn Fercho of Calgary, AB, brother-in-law Fred (Mitzie) Lukich of Calgary, AB.  John is also survived by members of his extended family Shawn (Victoria) Casagranda of Calgary, AB, and Nicole (Preston) Dytham of Calgary, AB and their children.  Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his wife Caroline, sons David Devernichuk and Michael (Rose Casagranda) Devernichuk.  Also, by his parents Peter and Natalia Devernichuk, sisters Katie Checkowy, Mary Devernichuk, brothers Joseph (Gladys) Devernichuk and Orest Devernichuk, his in-laws Voislov and Mary Lukich.

As per John’s wishes, following his cremation there will not be a service or reception.
