Mary Corrigan

Obituary of Mary Anita Corrigan

May 8, 1932 - Brudenell, Ontario

April 23, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Marie was born in Brudenell, ON, on May 8, 1932, to her parents, Isaiah Scully and Elizabeth McCarthy. She was one of eight children, Jim, Archie, Eileen, Gladys, Pat, Cecilia, and Cathy. She often shared fond memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren of growing up on the farm, especially at Christmas when her father would hitch up the horses to the sled to visit extended family around the area.

Marie married Robert Corrigan on October 5, 1953, and they had three children, Brad (Deb), Brent (Kim), and LeeAnne (Ted (d.)). She enjoyed her many grandchildren, Wendylynn, Jeremy, Travis (d.), Alandra, Carter (d.), Marley and Toni; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Evan, Presley, Lily, Dominic, Charleigh, and Bronson; as well as her great-great-grandchild Leo.

They raised their family in the town of Onaping near Sudbury, Ontario and they spent their summers at “The Camp” on Windy Lake nearby. In later years, Robert and Marie spent time in the small mining town of Elsa, Yukon as Robert worked through his “retirement”. It was a wonderful experience that she cherished for the rest of her life. In 1991, the Alberta Rocky Mountains called them out west and Calgary became their new home. Robert and Marie spent many years travelling south for the winters in their motorhome, mostly to Arizona, settling on a more permanent spot when they purchased a Casita in Green Valley, Arizona, just south of Tucson.

Marie has always loved the outdoors and made a point to be active every day. There was always something to see and explore whether it was the desert in Arizona, blueberry picking season in Ontario, a crisp winter day in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta or enjoying the untouched beauty of the Yukon Territory. She enjoyed being active everyday and especially enjoyed cross-country and downhill skiing and even tobogganing well into her later years!

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Blvd SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at LeeAnne’s house in High River. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
