Obituary of Slavko Hucman

Slavko Hucman, beloved husband of Zorka Hucman (nee Adzic), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the age of 87 years.
Slavko was born in Cetekovac, Croatia on October 29, 1935. He immigrated to Canada and settled in Calgary in 1960. Prior to immigrating to Canada, in 1957, he went on a United Nations peacekeeping mission as a medic in Egypt. Slavko met Zorka in 1963 and they married in Calgary in 1964. They moved briefly to Prince George, BC, for work but eventually moved back and made Calgary their permanent home. Slavko was a highly skilled carpenter and later became a contractor working with his brother Tomo. His sons, Samuel and John, also worked alongside him. Slavko had a zest for life, making his own wine and he enjoyed having his family and friends around him. He loved going to the Croatian cultural centre. Soccer and hockey were his passions, and he had a fondness for horses. Slavko built his dream house in Springbank, spending the rest of his life there.
Slavko is survived by his wife Zorka, sons, Sam (Caroline) and John (Pam), granddaughter Amy; sisters, Rozika, Marica, and Anka; niece Marga, nephew Zlatko, and numerous nephews and nieces. He is now reunited with his brothers, Rudy, Tomo, and Pavo; sisters, Agnesa, and Jelka; and his beloved parents, Florijan and Kata.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Rockyview Hospital for their great care and compassion.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church (14680 Deer Ridge Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Croatian Canadian Cultural Centre (3010 12 St NE, Calgary, AB).
