Condolences
I always thought I would see Christa again I regret I did not. She was a wonderful colleague who provided relevant, arts inservices for teachers and was supportive of bringing in a strong, credible curriculum. She and Joan had firm determination and great patience to ensure that ultimately students of the arts would benefit in pursuing creative endeavours. Solid grounding the arts was set.
I have a card for the family as Christa, Anne and Sabby were amongst the first Calgarians I met when we moved here in the 60's...will send that along with a few memories.
So sad to learn of Christa’s passing.
We have many wonderful memories of working together at the Fine Arts Centre, many years ago.
Our condolences to Christa’s Family.

Thinking of the Volk family during this very difficult time. Lisa and I met in 8th grade when we were only 13 years old and have been besties ever since. I have wonderful memories of going over to the Volk house for sleepover’s, and Lisa’s mom would have food and cookies and treats and anything you can imagine all over the kitchen. You never went hungry there! I always marveled at how she could be such an amazing wife, mother and have a job and still have time to cook all of this incredible food. Holding all of you in my heart and sending you so much love and incredibly sad that I can’t be there today with you.
Dear Lisa,
I was saddened to hear of your Mom’s passing. I first met your Mom when you sang in the Mount Royal Children’s choir and she volunteered as an excellent chaperone for the 1982 tour to the UK. Your father joined us in London and became part of the chaperone team.
Later I was in professional contact with your Mom when she was the Supervisor of Fine Arts for the Catholic board and I was a music consultant for the public board.
She had a most prestigious professional and academic career.
Cherish the memories as you mourn her passing.
Go well ,
Rosemarie Sherban (Robertson)
Christa was a mentor to many, many new teachers (including me) and even taught the "old dogs" new tricks. She was imaginative, irrepressible, and indefatigable with her passionate advocacy for the arts. Hers was a life well lived and she will always be remembered. Love and blessings to all who knew her and were inspired by her. Rest in peace, Christa.
I will always remember Christa for her generous help and support throughout my teaching career. She was a beautiful person with patience, great advice, inspiration, and a cherished smile. May your many memories bring you comfort and peace.
Christa was a wonderful colleague; her dedication to art education and the Fine Arts Center in Calgary was amazing. Watching Christa bustle about between school visits helping teachers and students alike was inspiring. Thank you Christa for caring, doing and sharing… you were a dear friend.
Christa was such a wonderful person to work with. She always had good advice for a beginning art teacher back in the day. Christa inspired me and I am a better teacher having known her.
