Obituary of Gloria Anne Spence

Gloria Anne Spence passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 86 years of age after a brief illness.

Beloved wife of Garnett Spence. Loving mother to D’Arcy (Lenore), Wayne (Sandra), Brian (predeceased), and Laurie. Fiercely protective grandmother to Heather (Rodney), Jamie, Jake, Devin, and Skyler and great-grandmother to Dominic and Evan. Her family was the light of her life.

Gloria was born in Edmonton, Alberta on March 11, 1937, but always celebrated her birthday on March 12. She graduated from the Henderson Secretarial School, an accomplishment that she was very proud of. After marrying the love of her life, she travelled the world with their growing family as an Armed Forces wife. She worked for the Special Investigations Unit in Lahr, Germany. Upon the family’s return to Canada, they settled in Calgary where Gloria worked for the City of Calgary in Engineering Services for 24 years. While working at the City, she and “the girls” met for lunch at the No. 1 Legion daily. Her organizational skills were unsurpassed.

Gloria enjoyed a good joke and loved to play pranks on others. She looked forward to their Steak-night Tuesdays with old friends followed by a short trip to the casino to spend her $20 and have coffee with friends.

Family and friends will be welcomed to visit at a Celebration of Life for Gloria at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
