Obituary of Anthony Leslie Griffith

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) Griffith, husband, father and grandfather, on Friday, April 28, 2023, in Calgary, AB at the age of 89.

As a child, Tony was evacuated out of London during the war where he spent several years living on a farm and to him, these were some of the best years of his childhood. At fourteen he entered Balham & Tooting School of Commerce and after both gaining experience in London as a bookkeeper and completing his compulsory military service for England, he gathered up his courage to make a new life in Canada.

In 1959 Tony married the love of his life Maureen and they eventually settled in Calgary where they were married for 62 years until Maureen’s passing in 2021. Tony and Maureen were all about family. Driving their kids to sporting events, going on family camping trips or in the station wagon down to California. In later years, Tony and Maureen loved spending the winter months down south where Tony would wander throughout the campground, with his dog in tow, and chat with anyone who would listen. Wherever he was, Tony’s big smile and friendly personality always brought neighbours and friends around for tea. He loved being around people and his dogs Casey and Bow.

The pride of Tony’s life was his three kids and five grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly. Christopher Griffith (Laura) of London, ON (children, Rachel, and Christopher), Kevin Griffith of Calgary, AB, and Kimberley King (Stephen) of Calgary, AB (children, Vanessa, James, and Carter). To Tony’s family, his loving nature and constant support will forever be a part of who they are.
