Obituary of Norma Ellen Mundt

Norma Mundt of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the age of 87 years, at AgeCare Seton where she resided for the past seven years.

Norma was born in Smithtown, Long Island, New York, USA, on March 19, 1936. She immigrated to Okotoks, AB, Canada, in 1947. Norma graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Education. She was a volunteer with First Lutheran Church in Calgary. Norma accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her family. She enjoyed crafts and painting. Norma’s most memorable vacation was when she travelled to Europe when she was 24.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Ingrid and CJ Thiessen of Calgary; two sons, Edwin of Calgary, and Gerhard and Barbro of Evenskjer, Norway; daughter-in-law Tammy Chalus of Calgary; two brothers, Owen Wiig and Marge Barnes of Edmonton, and Russell and Alison Wiigs of Calgary; and sister Iris Penner of Surrey, B.C.

Norma is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric Thiessen and Stephanie Gounder of Houston, Texas; Hans and Teresa Thiessen of Vancouver, BC; Fredrik Mundt of Evenskjer, Norway; Emilea Mundt of Calgary; Thomas Mundt of Evenskjer, Norway; Neil Mundt of Calgary; and Amy Mundt of Calgary; great-grandchildren, Dominik, Timothy, Matthew and Kasper Thiessen of Vancouver, B.C.; and Adele Thiessen of Houston, Texas.

Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband Helmuth Mundt, son Carl-Heinz Mundt, and parents, Mildred and Arthur Wiigs.
