Obituary of Rita Christina Faubert

December 24, 1925 - Ponoka, Alberta
May 2, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

The family of Rita Faubert announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Rita was the eldest daughter of twelve children. She was born in Ponoka and raised on the family farm in Bluffton. Her parents Zeno and Loretta Goetz were so fortunate to have her assistance in raising her younger siblings.

She met John while working in Lacombe and they were married on July 25, 1949. They settled in Calgary in 1950, where they raised their family. Rita was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a fabulous homemaker, gardener, family historian, talented quilter, and excellent seamstress.

Rita had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed travelling the world, as well as driving their precious motor home on numerous adventures. Rita enjoyed playing golf and dancing, but her greatest joy was time spent with her family. Together, Mom and Dad's home was always open to family, friends and anyone who needed a helping hand. The City of Calgary awarded Mom for her countless hours of community volunteering. This included her part in helping with the history book called, Journey Through the Crossroads.

Rita is survived by her six loving children, Anne Marie (Ken) Dick, Theresa (John) Taks, Janice (Dave) Wood, Marcel (Patti) Faubert, Lorie (Greg) Pelech, and Annette (Mike) Demsky; eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth, and Anita; brothers, Alvin, and Norman; and sister-in-law Clare, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rita also held a special place in her heart for Kelly Lerner and David Morrison.

Rita was predeceased by her husband John, her siblings, Leonard (Mildred), Clarence (Jean), Elmer, Mary (Leo), and Doris; brother-in-law Vince, and great-granddaughter Maeve.

Mom spent the last five years of her life at Evanston Grand Village. We wish to thank Dr. Evans and all the staff for their wonderful care, love, and devotion.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Parish (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. A private Graveside Service will follow. Condolences memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.
