Obituary of John Cameron Dennis

March 19, 1963 - May 5, 2023

John Cameron Dennis passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the age of 60 years.

He was born in Edmonton, moved to Calgary in 1966, and remained a lifelong resident of Alberta, having also lived in Red Deer. His last days were spent back in Edmonton in a Covenant Health nursing home. He had a lifelong passion for theology, with a deep understanding of both Judaism and Catholicism. He also avidly followed world affairs through daily listening to the CBC radio and was looking forward to the coronation of King Charles III of Great Britain, although he missed that event by passing the day before it occurred. His most memorable vacations were when he, his siblings and parents travelled to Kenya and South Africa in 1979, and a later solo bus trip across Canada to Quebec City and back. 

Although Cameron passed without accumulating all the toys and trappings of material wealth, and parented no children, consider the Scripture 1 Samuel 16:7: “…Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart”.

Cameron will be most remembered for his intellect and wit.

John Cameron Dennis is survived by his brother Robert Dennis and sister-in-law Catherine Dennis both of Mill Creek, Washington; his brother Allan Dennis of Ottawa, ON; and his sister Marianne Dennis of Edmonton, AB; along with a nephew and numerous nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Joanne and Bruce Dennis of Calgary, AB. 

Funeral Services will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd (408 – 38th Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta) on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Church of the Good Shepherd. Reception to follow. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join John’s service streamed live streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
