Obituary of Michael "Mike" Standish

Michael Clark Standish, beloved husband of Lauretta Standish (née Blackwell) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the age of 86 years.

 

Mike was born to William & Gertrude Standish in Priddis, AB on July 6, 1936. He married the love of his life Lauretta Jean Standish (née Blackwell) on May 7, 1966. Mike and Jean recently shared their 57th wedding anniversary.  Their years together were full of love and happiness. He was the amazing father of Ken (Heather) Standish of Australia, Cathy (Rob) Wensveen of Calgary, and Tricia (Farron) Wick of Rocky View County.  Mike was a wonderful Papa to Victoria (Scott) Randall, Liam (Kloe) Standish, Jennifer Wensveen (Jesse Buchholz), Travis Wensveen, Cortina Wick and Nolan Wick. He was the proud Pops to four great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings, Willamette, Edith, Marilyn, Vera and Randy.  Mike was predeceased by his parents, his twin brother, Tom, and brothers, Bill & Alex who were also twins and his sister Margaret. 

 

Mike worked as a Signal Maintainer for CP Rail for 33 years. He loved camping, golfing, fishing, travelling, and mentoring the youth while coaching baseball, hockey and as a cub leader with the Community Scouting group.  Mike was also a volunteer fire fighter in Banff. Mike was forever lending a hand, helping wherever he could.  He was a kind and patient man and a mentor to all that knew him.  Mike will be dearly missed. His wishes to us all were to always "Have a Happy Day!"

 

As per Mike’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
