Obituary of Marianne Emily Cecily Mettler
December 27, 1927 - Berlin, Germany
May 12, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce that Marianne passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023 at the age of 95 years. Marianne was born in Berlin, Germany to Dr. Leo and Sophie Sierigk. After leaving Germany in 1945, she moved to London, England to pursue her nursing career. In 1955, she moved again to Toronto, Canada where she worked as a private nurse at the Wellesley Hospital. In 1961, she moved to Switzerland, where she met the love of her life, Paul. They married in April 1963. Marianne had one more move back to Canada and settled in Calgary in 1966. After working briefly at the Holy Cross Hospital, she gave up her nursing career to raise her family.
Marianne always enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She loved music and playing the piano. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and travelling.
Marianne was predeceased by her husband Paul, parents, and sisters, Carola and Barbara. She is survived by her two daughters, Andrea (Peter) Ranaghan and Barbara Mettler-Jordan (Derrick), all of Calgary; three grandchildren, Paulina Jordan, Mack Jordan (Calgary) and Jason Ranaghan (Lethbridge). She is also survived by sister Leonora Sierigk in Germany.

Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
