Obituary of Andrew Iwasiuk Dunan

Andrew Iwasiuk Dunan, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023, in Calgary, AB at the age of 92 years.  He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Islan); grandchildren, Dia, and Kyle; niece, Sherry (Lawrie); nephew, Mark (Lisa); and grand nieces and nephews, Shayla, Jessica, AJ, Matthew, and Alexander.  Andrew was predeceased by his father Steven, mother Yohanna, and sister Clara.

 

Born in Vauxhall, Andrew grew up on the family farm and enjoyed tending to the animals and fixing farm machinery.  He received his civil/structural engineering degree from Montana State in 1956 and then embarked on his engineering career, that took him to Vancouver, Edmonton, NWT, Alaska and Calgary. 

 

Andrew had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed tennis, hiking and respected every living creature, including the porcupines, birds, and deer that regularly visited his Calgary home. He had a diverse group of friends and travelled extensively throughout North America and Europe with his life partner, Lillian. 

 

Andrew loved telling stories and reciting poetry.  One of his favourite poems was Abdul Abubul Amir, and he often recited it word for word during the holidays. He had a keen interest in analyzing the origin of words and particularly focused on Ukrainian and other Slavonic languages.  His insights on a wide range of global economic and political topics will be missed.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. A brief Graveside Ceremony will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 3:00PM at Vauxhall Cemetery in Vauxhall, AB.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.MHFH.com.
