William (Len) Thyer passed away at home May 18, 2023, with his family at his side.

He was born Feb 10th, 1944, to the late Lily Berry and W.A. Thyer in Montreal (Point St. Charles), Quebec. Len attended Lorne School, St.  Laurent High and Malcolm Campbell High. Len spent many happy years, in his teens at the YMCA’s Camp Kanawana hiking in the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal and later canoe tripping throughout northern Quebec.

Len was deeply involved in drag racing in the Montreal area (Cedars Dragway and Napierville Drag Strip), building several dragsters and a wheel standing funny car. Len moved to Calgary Alberta in 1981 and found his true home. Len enjoyed hiking, riding, and hunting in the Kananaskis west of Calgary.

Len was introduced into the pipelining industry in 1989 and became a member of Local 488 as a welding technician and later a welding inspector. Len has worked for all the major pipelining companies, building many lines for TransCanada, Enbridge, Nova, and Nova Gas Transmission Lines over the years.

Len leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years Joanne, daughter Jessica (Justin Winter), grandsons Jaxton and Maddox, and was preceded in death by his son Jason. He will be missed by his sister Jean, brother James, nieces and nephews and close friends whom he considered family. A special thank you to Dr. Vig and Nurse Joy.
