It is with much love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Kathleen Lucas (nee O’Neill) on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the age of 85 years.

Peggy was born March 30, 1938, in Edmonton, AB to Dr. Ambrose and Kathleen O’Neill.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Gerry; parents, Dr. Ambrose and Kathleen O'Neill; her sister, Mary-Beth Sullivan; and her brother, Dr. Michael O’Neill. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Kathy (Fred), Jeff (Laura), Ann (Robert), and Jack (Karen); nine grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Paul, Spencer, Luke, Alex, Sara, Alexa, and Charlie; as well as her brother, Patrick (Lorna) and her sisters, Maureen (John), Doreen, and Loretta. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whose relationships she treasured.

Peggy was a proud graduate from the nursing school at the Edmonton General Hospital (EGH) in 1960 and became a registered nurse. Later she completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta while raising four children. Her career included hospital shifts, public health care, palliative care, and outpost nursing in northern Canada.

Peggy derived great pleasure from family, friendships, cooking, entertaining, swimming, scuba diving, skiing, reading, painting, print making, art, driving and everything else that can by done with a woman with boundless energy and enthusiasm. She was a faithful Catholic and practiced great generosity to those around her and the less fortunate.

Her family is incredibly grateful to all the exceptional caregivers and nurses on the fifth floor at AgeCare Seton with special thanks to Dr. Matthew Henschke.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Basilica (10044 - 113Street, Edmonton, AB) on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 10:00 am.
