Obituary of Lorraine Marion Colling
1935 – Tompkins, Saskatchewan
May 21, 2023– Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother after a lengthy illness. Lorraine passed surrounded by the love of her family members. She was born in Tompkins, Sask., but resided the majority of her life in Calgary. She is predeceased by her mother Irene and her sister Elaine.
She is survived by her loving husband Bill, her special cousin and best friend Eleanor, her two sons; Wayne and David, her six daughters; Linda (Jack), Lyann (Wayne), Debra, Stephanie, Allison (Kevin) and Cindy (RJ). Lorraine also left a legacy of 52 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. Lorraine is also survived by sisters Carol (Wayne), Denise (Clair), and brother Dennis (Cindy).
Mom had many interests in her life, but cherished her prize collection of porcelain dolls, seashells and thriving plants, but her most prized pastime was with her grandchildren.
Mom flourished in their love and the whole room lit up with her smile whenever they were with her.
She was one of the most devoted and protective mothers to her 8 children, she faced many hardships in life but always persevered to hold strong for them. She did a lot of praying, as her faith was unrelentless, which also gave her the strength to go forward, without ever asking for help or letting anyone know.
Mom loved having everyone over for meals, there was always a place for everyone and anyone at our dinner table. Mom was known for her beautiful smile, bright blue eyes and willingness to always help anyone in need. Mom always shared her stories of growing up with her siblings, cousins, aunties and uncles and the neighbours as fond loving memories. She was very talented, creative and hardworking, whether it be in her garden or helping one of her children. You could always count on her.
A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 2:00PM at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB)
I’m not gone
I’m here in your heart,
I’m here in your memory
Just whisper my name
I will be there,
In the soft caress of your hair,
The feel of a soft kiss on your cheek.
In the sun on your face,
In the warmth of a smile
In the butterflies, dragonflies &
the songs of the birds
Remember whisper my name
I will be here always and forever
With Love Mom (Grandma)
Mom will be greatly missed by everyone’s lives that she touched.
