Obituary of Marjorie Agnes Stagg

August 31, 1925 – Edmonton, Alberta

May 27, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Marjorie Agnes Stagg, beloved wife of late Robert Stagg of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the age of 97 years.

She was born in Edmonton, AB on August 31, 1925. Marj lived her early years in Sangudo, AB and moved to Edmonton as a young woman where she lived most of her life.

In 1951 she married Bob, her husband for seventy-one years. “Marj and Bob, The Greats”, began their married life welcoming three children, Ritchie, Barbara and Bobby who were the centre of their lives. Marj worked for the Government of Alberta for the majority of her life and was known for her meticulous attention to detail.

Her desire to explore the world inspired many journeys and adventures. Together, they toured Europe, Southeast Asia, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and sunny hot destinations. They built a beautiful second home on their property at Lake Baptiste for their family and to welcome their many friends where they spent many memorable times. There was never a table set by Marj that didn’t dazzle with candles and flowers. Music, wine and laughter were the only way to share delicious dinners with The Staggs.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Ritchie Stagg (Catherine), Barbara Mitchell (Rob), and Bobby Stagg (Barb Harris); seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and brother Stanley Crothers. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Stagg, granddaughter Carly Stagg, and brother Leo Crothers, brother David Crothers, and her parents, Wilfrid and Laura Crothers.

Above all, Marj was the most loving Mom and Grandma. She guided her family with a quick wit, compassionate ear, and with true honesty. Her elegance was never about being noticed, it was just who she was. Her style was timeless, and she carried herself with strength and dignity until the end of her life. Marj’s last years were spent close to family in Calgary first at Evanston Summit, Whitehorn Village and finally at Hillcrest Extended Care. The staff’s kindness and compassion were such a comfort in her last days.

We will honour and miss her forever.
