Obituary of Dr. Ronald Edison George

October 1, 1937 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

June 1, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with love that we say good-bye to a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Dr. Ron George (PhD) on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the age of 85 years.

Ron grew up in a loving family with three sisters where his interest in education was nurtured by his mother and his expertise in target shooting was nurtured by his father. The latter led him to being inducted into the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame with his father under the guise of “The Shooting Georges.” Education was a big part of Ron’s life, resulting in a Bachelor and Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Management Sciences and leading to careers in both the teaching and business worlds, where he excelled.

Ron believed strongly in helping others and the spirit of volunteerism. His tireless work with The Canadian Hemophilia Society led to better care for many hemophiliacs and their families. He was known as a giant in the hemophilia world. He combined his faith and his work ethic by sitting on the board of directors for Lutheran Life, Concordia University, and the Alberta Electric System Operator.

Ron met his wife, Leni, at a nurses’ dance at City Hospital in Saskatoon in 1956 which resulted in 63 years of a cherished marriage. Ron and Leni had three children who brought them much joy and happiness. Ron is survived by his beloved wife Leni, son Mark (Dana), daughter Shari (Craig); grandchildren Amanda (Dylan), Robyn (Marco), Michael (Mikalyn), Nathaniel and Mikaela; great-granddaughter Shaefer; sisters Beverly (Al) and Linda (Brian); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Ed, mother Aurora, sister Rae, dear son Scott, and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral Services will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 – 34th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
