Obituary of Douglas (Doug) Shandro

June 5, 1934 - Edmonton, Alberta
June 3, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Shandro on June 3, 2023 in Calgary. Doug was born in Edmonton to Stephen and Helen (Alexander) Shandro.

He is predeceased by his brother Gerald (Mary, Elsie) Shandro. Doug is survived by his former wife, Audrey Shandro and their children, Steven (Kathie) Shandro of Castle Rock Colorado, Robert Shandro of Calgary, and Carole (Randy) Warren of Harrison Mills, B.C. Doug has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his loving partner and companion, Moyra Ferguson. Her kind family welcomed him and cared for him deeply. We are forever grateful for their generosity and gracious hearts.

Doug was very active in the service side of the oil and gas industry in Calgary for most of his life.

He was a longstanding member of the Earl Grey Golf Club, and a past President of The 400 Club.

He spent 20 years volunteering for the Calgary Downtown Attractions: The Old Time Rigs, and Pancake Breakfasts. He also spent many years volunteering on the Grey Cup Committee.

Doug loved the Calgary Stampede, and many times rode on a wagon pulled by a team of horses in the Calgary Parade.

He loved to golf and spend time with family and friends. He loved his cigars too!

We wish to thank the staff at Prominence Way Retirement Home for their kindness and care of Doug.

A family and friends celebration will be held on June 27, 2023. If you would like to attend, please contact warrencarole3@gmail.com or please call 604-426-1174. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
