Obituary of Sharon Thompson

Phyllis “Sharon” Thompson beloved wife of William “Bill” Robert Thompson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the age of 74 years.

 

Sharon was born in Manning, AB, Canada on June 9th, 1949 and she moved to Calgary, AB, in 1983.

 

Sharon graduated from the Manning High School with a Matriculation High School Diploma.

 

Sharon married Bill in 1974.

 

Sharon accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her family. She was a member of the Calgary Silver Thimble Quilters Guild and volunteered with making and donating quilts for neonatal intensive care hospitals in Calgary.

 

Sharon enjoyed sewing, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, bird watching, backpacking, traveling, quilting, needlework, curling, cards and being outdoors.

 

Sharon had many memorable vacations, including when she cycled Germany, Austria, Hungary, and France with Bill; did a hiking tour through Patagonia and visited  Iceland, Antarctica and Churchill to see the Polar Bears and toured Scotland. She enjoyed a quilt tour in Russia, in Japan, as well as several various quilting shows in and along the West Coast the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed hiking Mount Assiniboine in Kananaskis, traveling to see the big Red Woods in California and visiting various cities in Canada and USA, snorkeling in Hawaii and experienced Haida Gwaii.

 

Sharon is survived by her daughter Kristine Biegler of Calgary, Alberta; her son Bradley Kirk “BK” Thompson of Calgary, Alberta; and five grandchildren, Kyla McDowell and her husband Alex Charlton, Tia McDowell, Armen Biegler, Aris Biegler and Tevan Biegler of Calgary, Alberta. Sharon is also survived by her two sisters, Josephine Kwik, and Melanie Kobza and her brother-in-law Bob Lefebvre of Calgary, Alberta. As well as her nephews Sean, Sedge, and Jody.

 

Sharon was predeceased by her loving husband Bill Thompson,  mother Elizabeth Kobza and father Joseph Kobza.

 

As per Sharon’s wishes a private Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14 at her residence between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
