Obituary of Geoffrey David Popkey

November 25, 1935 – Ottawa, Ontario

June 4, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geoffrey David Popkey (Jeff), on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 87 years.

Jeff will be lovingly remembered by his wife Zelma Judith Tyndale (Judy), his cousins Johnny Dunn (Nelson, BC), and Janet Clancy-Taylor (Ottawa, On); as well as his sister-in-law Margaret Popkey (Port Moody, BC), his nephews David and John Popkey; and his niece Jennifer Popkey-Fahey.

Jeff was born in Ottawa and moved to Calgary at the age of 15, working summers for Standard Gravel. Jeff worked his way through school, becoming a denturist and a partner in the practice. Jeff met Judy at the age of 19 and they have been closely involved in each other’s lives for the last 64 years.

Jeff's uncle was King Clancy, and Jeff became a huge Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Calgary Football fan, remaining a fan up to the time of his passing.

Jeff's last year was spent at the Bethany Care facility with his good friend Eugene Mah and many others.

Jeff will be remembered for his big smile as well as his kind and generous personality.
