Obituary of Mary Jean Steel
February 9, 1948 – Vermilion, Alberta
June 6, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Mary “Corky” Jean Steel (nee O'Donnell), beloved wife of Ken Steel, of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the age of 75 years.
Corky was born in Vermilion, AB, and moved to Irricana, AB in 1956 and resided and farmed there with her husband Ken until retiring to Airdrie in 2013. For many years Corky and Ken enjoyed their winters in Arizona. She was an active member of the Irricana Curling club and for many years, the Acme Golf Club. She enjoyed travelling and seeing new countries around the world.
Beside her loving husband Ken, Corky is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Andy Pittman of Picture Butte, AB, a son and daughter-in-law Mark and Sara Steel of Beiseker, AB; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Pittman (Mike McKinnon) of Victoria, BC, Sarah Pittman (Aaron Petrowitsch) of Calgary. Corky is also survived by three sisters Kay Braniff of Calgary, Maggie (Bryan) Daubert and Teasie O’Donnell, all of Irricana; and sister-in-law Gladys O’Donnell, Corky was also survived by her nephew Dominick, and John (predeceased) who were considered brothers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Corky was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Dominick O’Donnell, her brother John O’Donnell, three sisters Nan Quinn, Frances Rothery, Ellen O’Donnell; and brother-in-law Clare Braniff.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (2 Ave, Beiseker, AB T0M 0G0) on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Beiseker Community Centre.
