Condolences
Cathy was an enthusiastic and valued member of the Calgary Women's Literary Club, where I was privileged to know her. She joined the club in 1954, long before I did, and so her contribution to the CWLC was immense. The club was so important to Cathy that, in later years, she had her care-giver bring her to our meetings even though she had great difficulty hearing by then. She remained an Honorary Member until her passing. Cathy was a wonderful lady and I know all our members who knew her will be sad to hear the news.

'Aunty Cathy' was a dear relative to our family! Catherine was my mother, Virginia Klatzel's first cousin, both hailing from the McHugh Family that were early Calgary pioneers. Virginia cherished her weekends at the Ryan family home through high school as it was a break from boarding at St. Mary's convent through the school year. As an only girl in her family, Virginia loved being with her 5 cousins, Catherine in particular as they were closest in age. Going through my mother's memorabilia after her passing I found a program from one of Catherine's skating performances. At a time when it was less common to have a profession and a family they both excelled in their careers and caring for their families. This meant that they mostly visited by phone but even as a child I remember how much Mom loved to visit with Aunty Cathy in person; tea at Aunty Cathy's meant china cups and delicious cakes and cookies. She was an expert at conversation and we loved spending time with her. To all her family my sincerest condolences.
Louise Klatzel-Mudry
