Obituary of Wayne Carrier

On Friday, June 16, 2023, Wayne Carrier of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 77 years.

Wayne was born and raised in Calgary, AB, where he graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. He went on to complete his Master of Social Work from McGill University and started his career as a social worker in Edmonton, AB. He moved back to Calgary and spent the rest of his 30-year career doing what he loved as a social worker with Alberta Health Services in various hospitals before retiring in 2002. 

Wayne’s best moments were spent being a father to his only son Benjamin. The two of them shared an unbreakable bond and spent unforgettable experiences together. Summers spent as an umpire for minor baseball, traveling, watching professional sports, golfing and exploring as father and son are cherished memories that have shaped Ben into the father he is now to his son Caleb. Wayne was a proud grandpa to his grandchild Caleb and step-grandchildren Connor, Mason, Liam and June.

Wayne had many passions and hobbies such as cribbage, playing trivia, baseball, and golf.  He also enjoyed other outdoor activities and spending time with his friends and family.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife Susan Frechette; son Benjamin “Ben” Carrier (Maria Cristofaro); stepdaughters, Tara Atto of Calgary, AB and Tracy Atto of Cochrane, AB; stepson Jeremy Atto (Amanda) of Ottawa, ON; and numerous other family members and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his mother Edna Morasch and father Henry Carrier as well as his sister Sharon Carrier.
