Bertha Warner

Obituary of Bertha Joyce Warner

WARNER, Bertha Joyce

November 11, 1929 - June 17, 2023

Bertha "Bunny" Warner of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the age of 93 years.

Bunny was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. She went to school for Grade 1-9 in St Marks, MB and later attended Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg, MB. In high school, Bunny acquired secretarial skills, such as typing, dictation and letter writing. During this same time, she volunteered for the YWCA to coach both hurdles and basketball. She married in 1953 and moved to Calgary. Bunny graduated from Mount Royal College in 1979 with a diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Financial Statements. She volunteered for the Holy Cross Ladies Auxiliary, Springbank High School cafeteria, and the Bach Society, to name just a few.

Bunny was employed as office manager from 1966-1975 in a family-owned office equipment business, 1976-1989 self employed providing bookkeeping services for clients, and her last and most enjoyable career was 1990-2000 as Office Manager for Ollerenshaw Ranch. Bunny enjoyed the relationships she built with the Rockyview Ladies group and belonging to St Stephen’s Anglican church. She enjoyed golfing, curling as a member of the Westwinds Curling Club, and years of gardening. She was passionate about researching her family's genealogy. Bunny was a single mother of four children, not an easy task. You would say Bunny's proudest moments were being with her family and some of her most memorable vacations were with her daughters, Shelley and Lori.

Bunny was predeceased by her husband Robert Warner, her son Brett, daughter Shelley, and her parents Alexander and Margaret Smith. She is survived by her son Jeff (Kelley) and daughter Lori (Greg Reynard) in Calgary; five grandchildren, Kristen (Tom Clarke), Bryce, Sean (Solbin You), Trevor (Rodolfo Zavan), and Tristen (Lorna); and her two great-grandchildren who she truly loved, June Clarke and Norah Clarke.

Funeral Service will be held at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, (1121 – 14th Avenue S.W, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family in attendance are thanked for their support. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

Bunny will be most remembered for her kindness, her marvelous sense of humor, her strong work ethic, and her intelligence. She challenged adversity with optimism, and she had a special ability to make enduring friendships with those she met.

In living memory of Bertha “Bunny” Warner, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
