Obituary of Moira Joanne McDonald

June 1, 1944 – Ottawa, Ontario

June 21, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Moira Joanne McDonald (McCracken), of Calgary, AB. She departed this world on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the age of 79 years, following a courageous battle with cancer, and surrounded by her loving family.  

Moira was born in Ottawa, ON, on June 1, 1944, and grew up in Regina, SK. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Physiotherapy. Following her graduation, she moved to Saskatoon, SK, where she met the love of her life, Mike McDonald. Following job offers in Calgary, AB, Mike and Moira married, and moved west to start their new life together.

Moira accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her eight grandchildren.  She adored cheering them on from the sidelines and showering them with her love and affection. Her unwavering presence will be deeply missed by her children, and grandchildren, who will forever carry her legacy in their hearts.

Besides her loving husband of 56 years, Moira is survived by her four children, Colleen (Adam Lewis), Sheila (Mani Boodhoo), Kelly (Etienne Guerard), and Mike (Carlie McDonald); her eight grandchildren, Norah and Emma Lewis, Aidan and Alicia Spreng, Owen and Ethan Guerard, and Aubrey and Finley McDonald.      

Moira is also survived by her sisters Winni Kohls, and Anna Oxley; as well as a host of other family members, and loyal friends, who will continue to carry her memory forward.

Moira was predeceased by her parents, Myfanwy and Maynard McCracken, and her brother Joe McCracken.
