Obituary of Audrey Sheila Lundy

August 23, 1934 - St. Boniface, Manitoba

June 23, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Our dear sister and aunt, Audrey Sheila Lundy, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Carewest Royal Park in Calgary.

Audrey was born in St. Boniface and grew up in Winnipeg at the family’s home on Beverley Street, and later, as a teenager, in Charleswood.  She attended St. James Collegiate and graduated from the Manitoba Technical Institute.  Her first job was with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Winnipeg.  She moved to Calgary in the 1950s when television was in its infancy and a budding CBC Calgary needed staff.  Audrey always said that she had intended to stay in Calgary for one year.  That year turned into a lifetime.  She loved working at CBC Calgary.  She was a staffing coordinator in Human Resources and enjoyed meeting many journalists and broadcasters who spent part of their careers there.  Drastic cuts within the corporation in 1991 sent her into early retirement.

Family and friends were important to Audrey.  She was a wonderful aunt and visits with her were always exciting.  We felt we had our own Mary, like the one on the Mary Tyler Moore show— beautiful, glamorous, and so much fun.  She developed an interest in fashion early, serving on Eaton’s Junior Council in her teens.  Her wardrobe was filled with stylish clothes, many made especially for her.  The next generation, and the next, were thrilled to own unique pieces handed down from the Audrey Lundy Collection.  She loved to treat out-of-province visitors with a drive to Banff and one of her famous picnic lunches.  In retirement, she battled breast cancer and recovered, and dedicated much time to her friends, assisting many in their later years.  She travelled a bit, with Ireland a favourite, and made frequent trips to Winnipeg.

Audrey leaves her beloved sister, Doreen Richmond (Lundy-McLennan) of Winnipeg who will dearly miss her and their almost daily phone calls of the last few years.  She also leaves her nephew Brent McLennan and his wife Laurel of Calgary who helped her with the many aspects of moving from independent life to a life in care; nephew Doug McLennan and his wife Mary-Ann of Edmonton who visited often and knew how to make her laugh; and niece Susan McLennan of Winnipeg with whom she was always close.  Jessica, Derek, Dallas, Kari, Keith, Matthew, and Cole will remember their great aunt fondly.  Audrey also leaves extended family and friends including her aunt Tillie Siemens and lifelong friends Adele, Enid, and Lilien.  She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eleanor Lundy; nephew Colin McLennan; and brothers-in-law Cameron McLennan and Murray Richmond.

We thank staff at Carewest Royal Park and others in Alberta Health Services for their care and compassion in Audrey’s final years.  We also thank Lydia Mayerle for assisting in so many ways.
