Obituary of James Alexander McCormick
MCCORMICK, James “Jim” Alexander
February 26, 1933 - July 5, 2023
I have passed away.
There will be no drum rolls or recordings of Frank Sinatra singing “I Did it My Way.”
My life started right here in Calgary and, except for an 8-year stint in Edmonton, I have lived and worked here all my life. Schooling was at Connaught School, Western Canada High School, and SAIT.
Marriage to my first love, Jean Ann Mackie, started a great family over 60 years until Jean’s death in 2014.
I was also predeceased by my parents, John and Mary McCormick, and my sister Shirley.
I am survived by children Jim (Louise) McCormick, Jo-ann (Ken) Dryden and Janice (John) Kirkland, by grandchildren Jennifer McCormick (Dave Laskey), Jill (Tim) Fox, Mark Dryden, Kristi Dryden (Chris Buchanan), Megan (Simon) Fox, Kate Kirkland (Matt Zilinski), Shelly Kirkland; by great-grandchildren Annabel and Jameson Laskey, Sarah, Elliott and Nate Fox, Grayson Buchanan and baby Zilinski (November 2023).
I careered for 30 years with Shell Canada Limited in seismic and electronic communications. Retiring at 51 years allowed me to explore and act on other work opportunities.
In these last years, my luck gave me a second love, Yvonne Rita McCrimmon, with whom I have enjoyed many wonderful days. Her family was my family: Her late son Brian McCrimmon (Judi Ross), son Darcy (Micki) McCrimmon and grandsons Luke (Kacey Valentine) and Riley McCrimmon.
I want to thank Dr. Christopher Morse, my GP, and Dr. Daniel Heng, my oncologist, and their respective caring staffs. As well, a sincere and warm thank you to the management and staff of the Manor Village at Varsity as well as both Homecare and the AHS Palliative Care group for their diligent, kind, and compassionate care in my final days.
I didn’t believe in heaven or hell or the concept of a soul. If I am right, I will never know! If I am wrong, ???
I loved you all.
Goodbye…
