Obituary of Jack Van Benthem

Jack, beloved husband of Betty Van Benthem passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the age of 90 years.

Jack was born in the Netherlands in the city of Zwolle, later growing up in Vollenhove. The 2^nd youngest of five children Jack, his mother, brother, and sisters immigrated to Canada in May of 1953, and after arriving in Halifax, travelled by train to Calgary when he bought his house in Bowness in 1954, and lived until his passing.

Jack began working for the University of Calgary as a machinist in the Faculty of Engineering in 1967, he loved what he did, was highly skilled and continued to keep busy even after his retirement in March of 1994.

Jack also owned property west of Sundre, Alberta and loved the outdoors and all that it offered and enjoyed sharing that property and those experiences with his friends and family.

Jack was loved and will be missed by all that knew him. You deserve your rest. Sleep easy. Love you always.

He is survived by his wife Betty; his children Chris and Brenda Van Benthem and his sister Alice Vis; as well as numerous nieces, and nephews, all of whom shared in his life.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
