Obituary of Travis Elliotte Elroy Kootenay

We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Travis “Chiffie”, who was called home by our Creator on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 57 years.
Travis was a humble person, his finest qualities was honouring his culture and traditional ways, especially referring to his kinship. Above all his finest strengths were his respect and resourcefulness. He was a self-taught mechanic, always working on things from vehicles to bicycles. Travis liked all sports; he was an avid baseball and hockey player. He enjoyed going to the rodeo, finding particular joy in the bull riding events. He loved listening to his music, from the 70’s era to now.
Travis is survived by his five children Travis Jr., Chance, Khalissa, Jett, and Marchi Powderface; his mother-in-law Sheri Powderface; two brothers, Yvan T. Kootenay and Terry (Margaret); three sisters Yolanda (Floyd), Tamra, and Rosie; three aunties Kathleen Poucette, Clarice Kootenay, and Mary Jane Beaver; five uncles, Felix Beaver, Joey Kootenay, Everette Wesley, Vern Hunter, Jackson Wesley, and Lawrence Dixon; nephews Sam, Travis, Terry Jr. “Bubba” and Philip; nieces Bonnie, Hannah (Oliver), Kris, Sandie, Tacey, Bobby-Jo (J.T.), Mary-Jo (Emmett), Lacie (Colton), and Isabelle; cousins Koko (Fred), Pauline, Sandra, Paula, Natalie (Rob), Rachel, Tracy (Alex), Colleen, Lori (Larry), Troy, and Jay.

Travis was predeceased by his four children Travhesa Kootenay, Lorenzo Bearspaw, and an infant son and daughter; parents Gordon Hunter-Beaver and Viola Kootenay; four brothers, Leland, Narvil, Kieth, and Quinton; and his sister Leona Kootenay; nephews Quinn Crawler, Lance BigStoney, Rudy Baptiste; and cousins Conrad, Joel, Clint Kootenay, Lee and Paget Poucette. Travis was the fifth generation on the maternal side from Hector Crawler, and the fourth generation on the paternal side from John “Sitting Eagle” Hunter Sr., Maternal great-great-grandfather Tatâga Mânî Walking Buffalo, and maternal side Joe and Mary Kootenay, and Hector Crawler.
Wake Services will be held at the residence Tamra Kootenay (Morley, AB) on Wednesday July 5, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at Bearspaw Youth Centre (Morley, AB) on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Bearspaw Cemetery (Morley, AB).
