Condolences
Thank you so much for streaming the service. I was very sad I wasn't able to make it.
I had the fortunate opportunity of working with Dan for my first radio job. He was there each morning to greet me and asked "so...did you screw up at all." My fondest memory was a terrible winters morning...I was concerned because no one was there yet. Finally, Dan bursts in and I get up to leave. Doug and Robyn weren't there yet, and he told me to park it...we were going to do the show together. It is still one of my favorite times I've ever had on air. Afterwards, he hugged me and said "I think you got a shot in this biz kid."
Your Dad meant so much to so many. Thank you for sharing him with us all. Sending you all lots of love, and hold your memories close to you during difficult times.
I was a brand new, just out of broadcast school, never lived outside of the Lower Mainland, nervous radio announcer when I met Dan Carson in Prince George in the summer on 1981. He showed me the ropes, introduced me around the station and helped me get my feet planted in broadcasting. We became close friends during our shared time at CJCI and developed a bond outside of the station life. Dan’s wit and humour was enviable and left a lasting impression. Many hours were spent playing DND, sharing meals or following through on the suggestion to “go get stupid”, always punctuated by Dan’s wry observations and many many laughs.
Janet and I were proud to stand with Dan, Tracy and Matt at their nuptials in Banff. He will be missed by us both. Our condolences to Matt, Kyle, Tracy and the rest of his family.
Dan was a joy to be around- anytime I did a morning show interview with the Odd Squad for the zoo he was just kind, engaged and funny. Maybe there is a station that needs him up above.
Trish
