Obituary of Christine Gunda Burwash

Christine Burwash (nee Hindle), beloved wife of 62 years to Lloyd Burwash, of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the age of 80 years.

Christine was born in Hanna, AB on May 25, 1943, to her birth parents, Gunda (nee Gunderson) and Delsing Stevenson. She moved to Vulcan, AB with her adoptive parents, Helen (nee Gunderson) and Alexander Hindle when leaving the hospital. She completed her schooling in Vulcan, graduating in 1959. She then went on to Red Deer College and Henderson Business College graduating with a business diploma.

Christine married Lloyd in 1961.They resided in Carsland, AB, until they moved to Lethbridge, AB, in 1967. They then moved in 2005 to Airdrie, AB.

Christine. was a member of many groups in Lethbridge. She was very involved with the Lions Club for many years, including being the president for a while. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of many different bridge clubs. She was a Brownie leader for a few years. Of all the groups Christine belonged to, bowling was her passion. She was a member of the Lethbridge Bowlers Association, competing in many tournaments but mostly she loved coaching youth bowling. One of her most cherished moments was when she coached at Nationals. Upon moving to Airdrie, Christine continued to enjoy playing bridge with the Airdrie Seniors clubs.

Christine loved her many vacations with family and friends.

Besides her loving husband Lloyd, Christine is survived by her son Edwin Burwash (Sherry) of Lethbridge, daughters, Lora Ebner (Michael) and Tracey Oostlander (Darcy), both of Airdrie; and grandchildren, Jared Ebner of Paris France, Erika Ebner (Nathan) of Airdrie, Eric Burwash of Lethbridge, Lucas Oostlander and Matthew Oostlander both of Airdrie. Christine is also survived by two brothers-in-law, a niece, and four nephews. Christine was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Alex Hindle, brother Dale Stevenson and his wife Gae, and sister Elizabeth McLetchie.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive) on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Airdrie Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Woodside Seniors Club (411 Woodside Drive, NW, Airdrie, AB). Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
