Obituary of Fredrick Michael Connors

October 19, 1963 - St. Johns, Newfoundland

June 30, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Fred (known as Fred, Freddie) to friends and family, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 59 years.

Born In St. Johns, NL, Fred spent his early years in Conception Harbour.  He completed a course in culinary school, along with an introduction to carpentry. He moved to Corner Brook for a number of years. While there, he worked as a cook at Memorial university, and during that time period he had the privilege and honor of cooking for the Royal Family. That was a great highlight for him.

From there, Fred moved to Mississauga, Ontario, and resided with his aunt Theresa, uncle Pat, and cousin Rachael, for several years. During that period, he also took care of his twin boys for a year. He spent a few years as a cook with a well-renowned local restaurant, until he moved to Calgary to join his extended family. He was well respected and loved by the owner and staff of that restaurant. Fred was always welcome to come back if he chose to do so. He made great friends there. While in Calgary, he proudly worked for several local building contractors and performed his work vigilantly.

Above all else, Fred’s greatest honor in life was being a dad. He loved and was so very proud of his three sons. His second greatest honor was becoming a grandfather and being called “Poppy.”

Fred will be remembered well by all of us, for his witty jokes and stories, which kept everyone in stitches laughing. In particular, the memories of Fred and family watching Mr. Bean and Mrs. Murphy.  His laughter and the memories of the good times is what we will always keep near and dear to our hearts.

Fred was predeceased by his mother Alice Smith (Connors) (Ken); grandparents Frank and Mary Connors; Fred and Fan Connors; Margie Connors; aunts Agnes (Ron), Mary, Betty (Charles); and uncle Joe, affectionately known to Fred as his big brother.

He is survived by sons Evan, Ryan, Jeremy; their mother Linda, and grandson Kain. He is also survived by his aunt Anne (George), Theresa (Pat), Lil, Ron, Rose McBride, and a very extensive family of cousins in Ontario, NL, and Oregon.

Fred will be “going home” to Conception Harbour, NL where he will be laid to rest with his loving family. Interment to follow in St. Annes Cemetery, Conception Harbour.   The date and time to be announced later to all family and friends.

Donations in Fred’s memory can be made to ST. Annes Parish Cemetery Fund.
