Barbara Weatherington

Obituary of Barbara Jean Weatherington

October 25, 1939 - Groveport, Ohio, USA

July 2, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Barbara Weatherington (nee Miller), beloved wife of the late Ronald Weatherington, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at the age of 83 years.

Born to Alvin Miller and Florence Marie (nee Knox) of Groveport, OH, Barb married Ronald Lee Weatherington in July 1958. Ronald predeceased her in March 2020. Barb is also predeceased by brothers, Terry Miller and Bob Miller. She is survived by siblings, Linda Edmonds, Debbie Beach, and Mike Miller; her children, Paul (Colleen) Weatherington, Karen Weatherington (Jon Eriksson), Pauline (Dean) Shold, Becky Decksheimer, and Mark (Lorna) Weatherington; her grandchildren, Tom Decksheimer, Meagan (Chris) Sparrow, Mike Decksheimer, Mandy Shold (Blake Shaffer), and Joshua Eriksson; and her great-grandchildren, Serena Sparrow and Isaac Sparrow.

Barb was faithful to her Lord all her life, and was an accomplished pianist, organist, pipe organist, and vocalist. Her recent passions were painting, knitting, and crocheting, but her biggest passion by far was quilting. She was an active member of several quilting guilds over the years.

In the summer of 1997, Barb and Ron moved to Calgary and became members of Hope Lutheran Church. Barb was very active in the church, becoming involved in the choir and choir directing, the church knitting club, In From the Cold, and became a pipe organist and pianist for her church. In 2010 Barb and Ron relocated into the Horizon Village Varsity, where she lived until she moved into Generations Care Home. When Barb moved into Generations Care Home in February of 2021, she chose to donate her piano to her church, where it remains in her honour.

Barb taught all her daughters to cook, sew and knit, and taught piano lessons to all five of her children, plus she also took on outside students that wanted to have piano or organ lessons. Barb enjoyed travelling with her husband Ron and making new friends, both in her church and in her community. We will always treasure our memories of our mother, mother-in-law, and friend. We will miss her beautiful smile, jokes, and stories.

Rest in Peace now Barb and rejoin your husband Ron.
