Obituary of Rhonda Claudette Kaquitts

Rhonda Kaquitts was called home by our Creator on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 8:11 a.m. after a long and courageous battle with liver disease, at the age of 69 years.

Rhonda was born on October 24, 1953, in Morley, AB she will be remembered and loved by her devoted children, who remained by her side until her passing.

Rhonda was a woman of great honour as a descendant of John “Sitting Eagle” and Leah Hunter and Isaiah and Mary Rollinmud. She was a matriarch of the family and a respected Elder who enjoyed working with others though the many organized events she was asked to attend to represent her culture and traditions. She loved all the roles she had gained though out her life as a daughter, wife, mum, grandma, great-grandmother, sister, auntie, niece, cousin, in-law and friend.

Rhonda is survived by her four children, Angela (Travis), Fletcher, Holly (Derence) and Kathy (Denny); eight grandchildren, Naomi (Nakoda), Katelyn, Navee (Bailey), Davis, Shikoda, Cadence, Jase, Nicholi and Sky; eight great-grandchildren, Nate, Niya, Dakota, Bentley, Timothy, Noah, Miles and Hannahlyn; daughters-in-law Michelle and Lisa; brother Roland; brother-in-law John Wesley; adopted daughters, Cassandra, Jackie, Wyanne, Tammy, Coralean (Monty), Andrea, Zabrina, Tanya, Fawn (Zhenya), Elisa, Bridgette, Rachel Snow, and April; and adopted sons, Aaron, Tommy (Corylee), Barry (Paula), Dennis and Anis. She is also survived by numerous friends and family from Morley, Bighorn, Eden Valley, Paul Band, Enoch, and Maskwacis. This includes all family and friends from the Treaty 6 and Treaty 7 Nations.

Rhonda was predeceased by her husband Gerald Kaquitts; her eldest son Jeremy Kaquitts, infant son Kyle Anthony David Kaquitts; her parents, George and Georgie Rollinmud; her father and mother in law Frank Kaquitts Sr. (Chief SittingWind) and Kathleen Kaquitts; her sisters, Elizabeth, Stella, Doris, Helen, Elaine and Stella; and her brothers, Gerald, George, John, Stanley, Scotty and Clarence.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Katelyn Beaver (Late Jeremy Kaquitts) (Morley, AB) on Tuesday July 11, 2023.  Funeral Services will be held at Bearspaw Youth Centre (Morley, AB) on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 1:00p.m.  Graveside Service to follow at the New Family Cemetery (Morley, AB). A traditional feast will follow at the residence of Katelyn Beaver (Late Jeremy Kaquitts).  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
