Obituary of Sylvia Doreen Hughes

Sylvia Hughes (nee Bellew), beloved wife of Gwyn Hughes, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Sylvia was born in Swansea, Wales on April 2, 1944, to parents George and Ivy Bellew. She married Gwyn in 1967, moving to Canada six days after their wedding on July 8, where they lived in numerous places within Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta.

Sylvia enjoyed a lovely cup of tea accompanied by a treat of her choice. She loved to crotchet and spent time walking her dog Rusty. She volunteered with Blankets for Canada, the Chinook Auxiliary Hospital, and the Soup Kitchen in Lethbridge. Sylvia and Gwyn toured Europe twelve years in a row and was proud to be able say they travelled 37 countries, many multiple times over.

Besides her loving husband Gwyn, Sylvia is survived by her three sons, Mark, Christopher, and Robert; siblings, Mandy and Peter; sister-in-law Mair and their extended families, as well as extended family in both Canada and the UK. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, George and Ivy Bellew; and her beloved dog Rusty.
