Obituary of Hazel Basaraba

Hazel Basaraba was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the age of 90 years.

Hazel was born to Gladys and George Bruce on March 28, 1933.  She lived her entire life in Calgary, Alberta.  Hazel was married to Peter Basaraba, they had three children: Calvin, Karen, and Gail.

She worked hard her entire life; she started out by providing administrative support to her husband’s construction business and then worked for Safeway for 28 years and in retail for 4 years after that. Hazel loved gardening, baking, her pets and most importantly spending time with her family. She was loving, kind, fiercely independent and a role model for all who knew her.

Hazel is survived by her three children, her two son-in-law’s and one daughter-in-law, her ten grandchildren and her twelve great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her spouse, her three brothers and one sister, and her daughter-in-law.

We will miss Hazel dearly; she was an incredible woman. We will all cherish and be blessed by our many wonderful memories of Hazel. A special thanks to the amazing staff at the Journey Club who took great care of her.
