Obituary of Betty Mary Krejcik
September 18, 1923 - Stogursey, Somerset, United Kingdom
July 5, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Betty Mary Krejcik (nee Brown) announces her passing on July 5, 2023, at the age of 99 years. Betty lived a long life rich with experiences, and her determination, compassion, and sense of humour will be dearly missed.
Betty was born on September 18, 1923, in Stogursey, Somerset, United Kingdom. She moved to Reading, Berkshire when she was sixteen and she survived a bomb attack there during the second world war that severely damaged her hearing. All was not lost, however, as she met the love of her life Stanley in Reading, whom she married June 25, 1946. They had three children: Paul, Ian, and Sally. Paul was autistic and Betty devoted much of her life to caring for him up until his death. She moved to Montreal, QC in 1960 and finally to Calgary, AB in 1988.
Known for being superstitious, Betty enjoyed telling fortunes, astrology, and reading her horoscopes. She was a tremendous animal lover and a lifetime member of the Canadian Kennel Club. She was also an avid seamstress and knitter, perhaps eclipsed only by her affinity for shopping. She had a sharp wit and was quite outspoken, always letting you know exactly what was on her mind.
Betty is survived by her daughter Sally Rose, grandsons, Daniel Krejcik-Rose and Robert Krejcik-Rose, granddaughter Nicole Krejcik-Rose, and great-grandson Dean Krejcik-Rose. She is also survived by her niece Isabel (Jennifer) Kooy (Peter), great-nieces and nephews, Trevor Kooy, Christine Kooy, Michelle (Kaih) Kooy, Greg Davis (Nichola), Jeff Davis, Mark (Laura) Davis, and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Stanislav (Stanley) Krejcik, her sons, Paul and Ian Krejcik; her parents; Lilliebelle and Charles Brown, her considered stepdad Alfred Foxell (affectionately known as Pa), niece Sara (Rob) Davis, and her dear sister and lifetime friend Barabara (Alfie) Stead (affectionately known as Bubu). The two sisters shared many adventures over their lifetime and now are free to share them again in the afterlife. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law Ray Rose and granddaughter-in-law Shawna Krejcik-Rose.
Enjoy your eternal peace, beloved Mum and Nana. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
