Obituary of Eric William Strycker
July 22, 1977 - Nanaimo, British Columbia
July 5, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Eric was born in Nanaimo on July 22, 1977, and passed away at home on July 5, 2023, from a rare and rapidly developing disease named Amyloidosis - type AL.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Kathryn (nee Watts), sons Kenneth and William and his daughter Clara. He also leaves behind his mother Gina Hesketh and her husband Jim, His brother Tyler, and his wife Amiellie, mother and father-in-law Norma and Wayne Watts, brother-in-law Russell Hays and his wife Melanie, sisters-in-laws Leanne Watts, Kelcey Watts and her husband, Joey Boskovich, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Eric spent most of his younger years in Victoria, BC. He lived and worked in Australia for a period of time prior to moving to Calgary, AB where he met and married Kathy.
Eric worked for many years as an Elevator Mechanic in Calgary, installing and modernizing elevators. He worked on the new courthouse and would tell stories of the people using the new fast glass elevators and hearing the screams prior to the modifications that were made.
He was a well respected and hard worker both at work and at home. He would help his co-workers, neighbours and friends and became known as the mayor of his cul-de-sac. His lawn was immaculate and his children nick-named it “Eric junior”. His children say he was an amazing Minecraft player, and he was a great mentor and inspiration to them with his sense of humour, his dedication to his family and his work ethic.
An everyday hero has left us. He is greatly missed.
