July 10, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Gord passed away peacefully on July 10, at the age of 74. He is survived by Shelly, his wife of 37 years, and his little grey cat Matilda. He is also survived by his brothers, David (Sharon) and Ross (Wendy) Anderson; sister Jill Anderson; his sisters-in-law, Carol Blais and Linda (Ross) Boulton; cousins, Ken (Susan) Anderson, Barbara (David) Hames; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gord was born and raised in Calgary and spent most of his life in the Elbow Park area. Upon his graduation from Western Canada High School, he went on to obtain his Bachelor of Commerce and General Accounting Designation from the University of Calgary. Gord worked most of his life in the oil and gas industry. The majority of his career was spent working with Pengrowth Energy Corporation as Senior Vice-President of Finance. Gord was a natural athlete, he excelled at skiing and hockey.
His greatest passion, from an early age, was cars, particularly BMW’s. He was one of the founders of the BMW Club of Southern Alberta and through his years as treasurer of the club, was rewarded a lifetime membership, as well of recognition from the BMW Club’s of Canada. He loved nothing better than spending hours detailing his cars. He was also very involved in driving schools, from Pasadena, California to Fort Worth, Texas, and Braynard, Minnesota. The friendships he developed in these pursuits made a lasting impact on his life.
Gord and Shelly were fortunate to spend many vacations travelling the world, including England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, the Caribbean, and their most exotic trip to Morocco.
At this time, we would like to thank his cardiologist, Dr. Nowell Fine, and his two clinicians, Kim Ronak, and Deb Bosley. We would also like to thank the staff at Amica, Britannia Seniors Residence. Their care and compassion was exceptional.
A private family celebration will be held to commemorate his life. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Meow Foundation at PO Box 65024, RPO North Hill, Calgary, AB, T2N 4T6, 403-230-6033, https://meowfoundation.com/
