A Celebration of life
Condolences
The Sunsetters Suncor Club Board Members sends their sincere condolences.
Please accept my condolences on the passing of Doug. I met Doug when I started working in the Suncor Extraction Plant. I thought Doug was fair, but demanding of the people working in Extraction. He gave me some time to get up to speed in the new work environment, but it was not long until he held me to the same standard as everyone else.
Doug moved to the truck shovel conversion project and I worked on the sizer installations on that project. I vividly remember the team trip to Scotland and Portugal to look at some MMD sizer installations. I especially remember Doug and Allan Potts of MMD really hit it off. They were having a great time eating and drinking.
Doug was an excellent teacher and I was able to learn much from him about the Suncor business, and even some basic accounting for a volunteer role I had with a youth sporting organization. I really enjoyed Doug's direct and demanding leadership style. He was a pleasure to work with.
Another memory I have of Doug and Gail is we were attending a SERA event at the Sawridge Hotel and a large piece of the room divider fell and hit Doug on the head and neck area. Doug was rushed off to the hospital, but he did not have serious injuries.
Gail take care of yourself, and remember all the good times you had with Doug.
We are going to miss our good friend Doug (or Dougie as I called him) immensely. Our heartfelt condolences to Gail, Michelle, Steve and Paul and their families. The pain of the loss will be felt for a long time but we know the values instilled in your solid family will help you to endure your sorrow. Unfortunately, Dougie and I will not be able to tour the Big Muddie or the Peace River area...something that we planned to do when the time was right however the four of us did get to visit some wonderful places together and those times will be cherished.
My condolences to Doug's family. I was sad to hear that Doug has passed away. I golfed several times with Doug at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club and was a former member of TEC Canada. He was a good friend and will be missed by many.
It is with a heavy heart that I write these words.
Doug was first and foremost a man who loved his family. He was active in his children’s lives and supported them through all their years. We had the pleasure of knowing Doug for many years. We were close neighbours on Marten Place. Doug and Peter managed the Extraction Plant for two years and it was here that Peter saw how dedicated he was to his work. Doug was always positive even in the tough times. He was always completely honest and his integrity was never questioned.
We would like to express our sincere condolences to Gail and to his three children Paul, Steven and Michelle, their spouses, and also to his grandchildren. We have lost one of the great ones. It was our pleasure to call Doug our friend.

Doug was always a Master of all he touched including me both at Suncor and for many years after. A true gentleman with a sharp mind and a very kind heart. I am so for our loss.
Gail, I was so saddened to hear of Doug's passing.
Although we haven't seen each other in many years, I think of you when I'm going through my memory lane. My deepest sympathy to all your family
My deepest condolences to Gail, Paul, Steve, and Denise. I got to know that Ayotte family through Paul when we went to school together in Fort McMurray.
My fondest memory of Doug is when I came over for supper and he cooked that thickest high-quality steaks I had ever seen. Back in those days (as a teenager) you were seen but not heard, Doug always made sure you had a place at the table. He will surely be missed by all!!
I worked for and with Doug for many years. I remember him well for his one liners and coaching ... he never lost an opportunity to offer guidance and develop those around him. I shared with fellow co-workers today that Doug once told me "There are two types of people, those that put energy into a company, and those that suck energy out ... those are the people you need to let go". Doug put A LOT of his energy into Suncor. Our Millennium Upgrader is a testament to Doug's energy. He will be remembered and he will be missed.

Dear Gail, we are sending our deepest condolences to you and your family. We love spending time with you and Doug whether be at Candle, Vegas or Calgary. We will miss our conversations and laughs. Sending hugs and love your way. Tim Vicky, and family
Our deepest condolences to Gail, Paul, Steve, Michelle & family's.
Our first introduction to Doug and Gail was at the time of our daughter Kelly's engagement to their son Steve, followed by their wedding a year later. What an exciting and happy time it was for all of us. I told our daughter at that time that she was very lucky to have such wonderful in-laws.
We have shared many happy moments as the grandchildren arrived and grew before our eyes. Our get togethers with the Ayotte family was always so enjoyed and looked forward to. Just recently we got together for David's Gr. 12 and Julia's Gr. 9 graduations and were so lucky to have Doug with all of us at these very special occasions. He was a wonderful man and will be so missed but never forgotten.
With much love to all the family,
Valerie & Peter Bowen
